Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional - SY

General Statement of Duties

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform any combination of instructional tasks and behavioral supports to assist students and teachers. Incumbents may teach one or more subjects to learners. A variety of behavioral intervention strategies will be implemented, with guidance from the supervising special education teacher(s). Supports related to adaptive abilities may be required in areas such as toileting/changing diapers, feeding and hygiene.

* Note the level of pay will be dependent upon the certification and level of experience of the incumbent.

High School Diploma or GED Certificate. Bachelor s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable to hiring authority.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Ability to work well with subordinates, public entities, educational professionals, etc.

Valid South Dakota drivers license.

Qualify as a paraprofessional as per the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act of 2001.

Successful completion of written tests and/or verbal interviews.

Other such examinations as deemed necessary by District.

The special education director or supervising teacher may require individuals to be certified in a behavioral de-escalation program (i.e. Crisis Prevention Institute/CPI, Safe Crisis Management/SCM, etc.).

The special education director or supervising teacher may require individuals to be certified in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
