Occupational Therapist

Black Hills Special Services Cooperative (BHSSC) is a public entity that is an educational cooperative under the State of South Dakota. BHSSC is comprised of five divisions dedicated to aiding school districts, individuals, and the communities.

Black Hills Special Services Cooperative is seeking to hire an Occupational Therapist for the  school year. The position will be 2-days per week, serving the Belle Fourche School District in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. Located in the Black Hills, the location is ideal for outdoor activities such as biking, hiking and camping. Applicants must have South Dakota certification. Salary will be in the range of $45 - $65 per hour, depending upon education and experience.

Belle Fourche, SD

• Consult with other members of rehabilitation team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate occupational therapy with other therapeutic activities.
• Select constructive activities suited to child's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to upgrade individual to maximum independence, prepare individual for return to employment, assist in restoration of functions, and aid in adjustment to disability.
• Teach children skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate progress.
• Provide practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living. Plan program(s) involving activities such as manual arts and crafts.
• Coordinate participation in sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help child develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities.
• Design and constructs special equipment for individual and suggests adaptation of individual's work-living environment.
• Confer with Physician and other practitioners to obtain additional patient information, suggest revisions in treatment program, and integrate physical therapy treatment with other aspects of child's health care
• Other duties as assigned

• Master's degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.
• Two (2) years experience working as an Occupational Therapist preferred; an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable by the hiring authority.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work well with subordinates, public entities, educational professionals, physicians, etc.
