Job Description

Supervises district transportation services. Driving duties may be assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Supervises district transportation operations and ensures compliance with all Ohio Pupil Transportation Operations and Safety Rules.
  • Serves as an active member of the administrative team and adviser to the superintendent.
  • Manages program compliance with certifications, contractual, legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Recruits, supervises, and develops staff leadership skills; accepts responsibility for results of delegated duties.
  • Verifies drivers are qualified and correctly licensed, monitors ongoing education, promotes defensive driving, and implements bus safety programs.
  • Prepares bus routes, assigns drivers, determines transportation methods, and addresses special needs of students with disabilities.
  • Publicizes program information and maintains social media/website content.
  • Directs dissemination of routing information, student rosters, and transportation schedules.
  • Monitors road and weather conditions, recommends delays or cancellations.
  • Coordinates non‑routine bus use (field trips, athletic contests, etc.).
  • Oversees vehicle maintenance and manages emergency repair procedures.
  • Monitors vendor compliance with district specifications.
  • Coordinates Ohio State Highway Patrol annual bus inspections.
  • Requisition s program supplies, evaluates products, prepares bid specifications, negotiates contracts, and maintains procurement records.
  • Maintains documentation and records systems, ensures accuracy and timeliness, and protects confidential materials.
  • Analyzes performance indicators and uses data‑driven planning for budget recommendations.
  • Develops mutually respectful relationships, maintains professional appearance, and ensures confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Maintains attendance records and complies with work schedules.
  • Fosters goodwill, resolves issues, and respects diversity.
  • Stays updated on professional standards, technology, emergency preparedness, and safety protocols.
  • Protects district property, addresses harassment, and complies with legal statutes regarding discrimination and child abuse.
  • Performs other specific job‑related duties as directed.
Qualifications
  • Meets all transportation director/supervisor personnel qualifications and training program; requires Ohio driver’s license.
  • Demonstrates commitment to defensive driving and willingness to work non‑traditional schedules.
  • Possesses effective leadership skills and willingness to undertake challenging tasks.
  • Maintains a clean criminal record relevant to public school employment.
  • Embraces performance standards (discipline, engagement, proficiency, resilience).
  • Has completed additional training such as blood‑borne pathogen, child abuse/neglect, communicable disease, CPR, first aid, and nonviolent crisis intervention (if required).
  • Demonstrates physical stamina and ability to drive and travel to multiple sites.
