The Superintendent, Training is responsible for leading training staff and overseeing workforce development programs supporting Relay Operations, Engineering, Design, and Emergency Response organizations. This position develops and implements apprenticeship, qualification, technical skills, leadership onboarding, and storm readiness training programs that support both union and non-union employees across Ameren Illinois operations. The role partners closely with operational leaders to ensure workforce readiness, regulatory compliance, employee development, and the successful adoption of new technologies and work practices.
Key responsibilities include:
- Manage and direct a staff of training professionals by direct observation of them performing training.
- Develop and maintain training materials with an emphasis on safety, regulations and the application of core and fundamental principles involved in their work roles.
- Lead training programs supporting Relay Technician, Distribution Automation Technician, and Technical Application Center Technician apprenticeship programs, including ongoing technical development, refresher training, and new technology implementation.
- Partner with business leaders to identify current and future workforce capability needs, evaluate skill gaps, and develop training strategies that support evolving technologies, changing work methods, and succession planning objectives.
- Active member on Relay Joint Apprenticeship Committee and Subcommittees.
- Lead qualification, requalification, and readiness training programs supporting Public Safety Advisor and Damage Assessment storm assignments, ensuring organizational preparedness and regulatory compliance during emergency response events.
- Establish and monitor performance metrics related to employee qualification, training completion, skill progression, and program effectiveness, utilizing data to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Chair the Joint Engineering Representative Training Program Committee.
- Collaborate with AIC leadership to proactively identify improvement opportunities and potential training solutions.
- Evaluate to make sure that the training methods and technology meet the needs of the operations personnel that we are training.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related field from accredited college or university required. Seven or more years of relevant operational experience (e.g., electric/gas operations) required. In lieu of degree, must have 10 years of relevant experience as described above. Three or more years of supervisory or project/team leadership experience required. In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:
Excellent written and verbal communications; good organization, decision-making, and teamwork skills; proficiency with general computer skills; demonstrated knowledge and proficiency relating to the following areas:
Ameren Illinois safety manual, safety practices and policies, etc., HR policies, labor relations, People Soft, Insight, etc., and work management processes and systems; and the following Ameren competencies:
