Probation Officers of the Adult Unit are appointed by the Director of Court Services and Probation with the approval of the Chief Circuit Judge and are under the direct supervision of the Adult Unit Supervisors. Adult Unit Probation Officers supervise adults sentenced to probation for traffic, misdemeanor, or felony charges. All Officers appointed to the Adult Unit may serve a six month probationary period at the discretion of the Director.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervise a caseload of adult offenders in accordance with Administrative Office of Illinois Courts and Departmental policy/procedures;
- Conduct intake interviews with all adults sentenced to probation and complete assessments/reassessments;
- Document all contacts relating to office visits, home visits, school attendance, community service, treatment, urinalysis tests, employment, and any other pertinent data relative to the case;
- File revocation reports with the State's Attorney;
- Testify in Court proceedings related to the case (i.e. revocation hearings, sentencing hearings, reviews, etc.);
- Provide monthly reports related to activity of the caseload;
- Obtain urinalysis and DNA samples from probationers;
- Successfully complete Probation Officer training required by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts or the Department;
- Duties as assigned by Director, Deputy Director(s), or Supervisor(s) to assist with the functioning of the department.
- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
- Certified eligible for hire by the Administrative Office of Illinois Courts;
- Have no prior felony convictions or suspended imposition of a sentence;
- A residence of St. Clair County, Illinois prior to completion of probationary period
- A United States citizen and resident of Illinois within 90 days of appointment
- Must be 21 years of age or upward
- Possess strong time management and organizational skills;
- Possess strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Possess a valid driver’s license.
