About the Military and Veterans Rights Bureau
The Military and Veterans Rights Bureau educates veterans as to their rights and benefits, provides written materials to assist veterans in understanding their rights on specific issues, and provides outreach to the veteran community by attending events and speaking on veterans' rights, benefits and other issues, such as consumer fraud and military employment.
Scope of the Bureau’s AuthorityThe Bureau also investigates violations of laws affecting Illinois veterans and service members to enforce such laws or to make referrals to the proper agency; violations of the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act and related provisions in conjunction with the Consumer Fraud Bureau; and violations of the Illinois Service Member Employment & Reemployment Rights Act.
Position OverviewThe next Assistant Attorney General in Military and Veterans Rights will enforce Section 2
YYY, deceptive practices targeting veterans and military members, of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and the Illinois Service Members Employment & Reemployment Rights Act (330 ILCS 61 et al) protecting employment rights of Illinois service members and other service member related statutes designed to protect the military community.

YYY of the Illinois Consumer Fraud Act and the Illinois Service Members Employment & Reemployment Rights Act. - Investigate violations of laws affecting Illinois veterans and service members, including consumer fraud, deceptive business practices, and employment and reemployment rights.
- Make referrals to the proper agencies and advocate for veterans when necessary.
- Work with the veterans’ rights community and foster communication and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with other supervisors and the Administration in day‑to‑day operations of the Bureau.
- Licensed to practice law in the State of Illinois at the time of application.
- Familiar with military terminology and culture; experience with reserve component service is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to be receptive to feedback and to interact well with supervisors and administrators.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in day‑to‑day operations of a Bureau or similar organization.
