Position Summary
:
The Patient/Family Volunteer Services Coordinator assists with recruitment, training, background checks, electronic record maintenance, and ensures volunteer regulatory and patient/family needs of Hospice of Southern Illinois are met.
Pay
: $18.83 hourly. Full‑time non‑exempt.
Schedule
:
Monday‑Friday 8:30 AM‑5:00 PM; occasional evenings or weekends for events.
Location
:
Based in Belleville, IL Patient Services Office with visits to Marion, IL. Company vehicle available or mileage reimbursement of $0.70 per mile.

Position Requirements- Education
- Graduate of an accredited high school.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience
- Minimum 2 years in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of Medicare hospice regulations is a plus.
- Volunteer experience with community service organizations.
- Experience with a variety of people in emotional situations.
- Functional knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office products.
- Working knowledge of database applications and report writing; experience with online portals for information extraction.

- Ability to present information publicly using technology.
- Enthusiastic attitude and strong teamwork ability.

- Represent Volunteer Services on the Hospice Team, identify opportunities, assign volunteers, and monitor assignments.

- Reliable transportation and proof of liability insurance.
- Willingness to travel within the Hospice boundaries.
Repetitive tasks, sedentary work, occasional lifting up to 10 lbs, occasional bending and squatting. Must manage stress, make decisions under pressure, and maintain vision >20/20 to 20 feet. Hear alarms, telephone, and recording devices.
Working ConditionsApproximately 95% of time in an air‑conditioned environment with occasional exposure to humidity, noise, odors, body fluids, allergens, cleaning agents, communicable diseases, and traffic. Remaining 5% in automobiles or patient homes with varying climate.
Essential Functions- Provide exceptional customer support to stakeholders.
- Work independently with strong organization and time management.
- Coordinate, lead, and schedule volunteer training programs and meetings.
- Assist with Hospice events (e.g., recognition dinner, fundraising, special events).
- Ensure ongoing, quality volunteer activities and maintain accurate volunteer list.
- Assist in writing, assembling, approving, and disseminating the volunteer newsletter.
- Develop spreadsheets, databases, and utilize data entry skills for reporting.
- Process background checks and fingerprinting promptly with HR.
- Ensure volunteers pass IL Department of Public Health and OIG checks.
- Maintain records to meet the 5% volunteer service requirement.
- Take initiative to cover Volunteer Department duties in supervisor’s absence.
- Build relationships with volunteers, motivate participation, and lead by example.
- Assist the Volunteer Services Supervisor in volunteer assessment and annual appraisals.
- Conduct or assist with training for special hospice volunteer programs.
- Seek volunteer opportunities that enhance the Hospice mission.
- Update knowledge of required volunteer competencies.
- Participate in meetings and in‑services as directed; complete required education.
- Gain knowledge of additional volunteer programs (e.g., Veterans Program).
- Support patients, families, clinical staff, and partners for mission enhancement.
