Role Overview
Memorial Hospital Belleville is an acute care hospital offering medical and surgical services, critical and emergency care, and specialized programs such as a Children’s emergency unit, heart and vascular care, and a lung cancer screening center. The facility is accredited for nursing excellence and provides comprehensive perioperative services for both adult and pediatric patients.
Role PurposePerform an expanded perioperative role as a first assistant to surgeons in the operating room. As an RNFA, work alongside the surgeon to provide direct patient care, collaborate with the perioperative team, and participate in decision‑making regarding patient care planning.
Responsibilities- Deliver intraoperative patient care and serve as the first assistant to the surgeon(s).
- Perform pre‑operative focused nursing assessments for planned procedures, analyze results, identify nursing diagnoses, and communicate desired patient outcomes.
- Act as a member of the surgical team, contributing to department efficiency and considering safety, effectiveness, efficiency, and cost.
- Monitor patient response and modify the plan of care accordingly, administering medications per standard nursing practice.
- Develop, manage, and coordinate an individualized peri‑operative plan of care directed by RNFA interventions.
- Evaluate patient progress toward outcomes, systematically assess nursing practice quality, and participate in lifelong learning opportunities.
- Integrate research findings into practice, advocate for patient safety, and provide professional leadership within the practice setting.
- Education:
Nursing Diploma or Associate’s Degree - Nursing. - Experience:
2–5 years of nursing experience; no supervisory experience required. - Licenses &
Certifications:
Current RN license. - Preferred:
Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing;
Certified First Assistant (CNOR);
Certificate of RN First Assistant.
