Position Details
- Schedule:
1 week on / 1 week off rotation days – about 50% on-call during "on" week (full-time pay during both weeks). - Clinical Responsibilities: assist in cardiothoracic surgeries, vein harvests, second‑assist open‑heart procedures, manage inpatient and ER consults, perform pre‑operative assessments and post‑operative care, enter orders and manage inpatient treatment plans, daily rounding.
- Position Highlights: 5–10 cardiac surgeries per week; high‑impact, hands‑on surgical role in a fast‑paced OR environment.
- Strongly Preferred: saphenous vein harvesting, cardiothoracic surgery exposure.
- NP candidates must have RNFA certification.

- Delivers intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s) as a collaborative team member, performing focused nursing assessments pre‑operatively and determining nursing diagnoses.
- Monitors patient response and modifies the plan of care accordingly; administers medications per standard nursing practice; develops and manages an individual plan of care that directs RNFA interventions.
- Implements, manages, and coordinates the perioperative plan of care related to RNFA interventions; evaluates patient progress toward outcomes; systematically evaluates quality of nursing practice.
- Participates in professional development and lifelong learning; evaluates practice against current professional practice standards, rules, and regulations.
- Integrates knowledge, skills, and experiences to meet patient and family needs throughout the continuum, including patient and family education.
- Manages the health care of select patient populations through advanced health assessment, diagnosis, intervention, and evaluation in a collaborative agreement with a physician; prescriptive responsibilities are reviewed by a collaborative physician.
- Contributes to overall efficiency of the peri‑operative department, considering safety, effectiveness, efficiency, environment, and cost factors in planning, delivering, and evaluating patient care.
- BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position; the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner is an essential function.
- Education: Bachelor's Degree
- Experience: Less than 2 years
- Licenses & Certification: Nurse Practitioner, RN
- Education: Master’s Degree
- Experience: 2–5 years
