Registered Nurse First Assistant

The RN First Assistant (RNFA) performs an expanded perioperative role, collaborating with surgeons during surgical procedures in the operating room. They provide intraoperative patient care, conduct pre-operative assessments, analyze data to determine nursing diagnoses, and communicate patient outcomes throughout the perioperative process.

They function as a team member, contributing to the efficiency and safety of the perioperative department by monitoring patient responses, administering medications, developing individualized care plans, and evaluating patient progress and care quality. The RNFA also participates in professional development, incorporates research into practice, advocates for patient safety, and provides leadership within the professional setting.

• Experience:
  
  2-5 years in nursing; no supervisor experience required
• Licenses &
  
  Certifications:
  
  RN license;
  Certified First Assistant, CNOR, or Certified RN First Assistant preferred

• Assist surgeons intraoperatively as a first assistant
• Perform focused preoperative assessments and develop care plans
• Ensure safety, effectiveness, and efficiency in patient care
• Administer medications, evaluate patient responses, and modify care plans as needed
  
  Engage in ongoing professional growth and ethical practice
• Collaborate with the care team and support patient and family education
