About the Role
The Solution Architect applies deep 401(k) (Defined Contribution) and benefits administration expertise and an understanding of client priorities to create compelling solutions that bring our value proposition to life and increase our win and renewal rate.
The Solution Architect is client‑facing and partners with Sales Executives and Account Executives through all stages of the sales process – from discovery and introductory meetings to RFPs, finalist meetings, contracting and hand‑off to the implementation team. In addition, the Solution Architect stays current on competitors, Defined Contribution trends, compliance developments, and Alight capabilities and provides market feedback to inform product road‑maps.
ResponsibilitiesDefined Contribution Administration Expertise
- Maintain expertise in Defined Contribution admin and working knowledge of other Alight capabilities (e.g., Customer Care, Compliance Point Solutions, Financial Wellbeing, Engagement Services).
- Articulate and communicate Defined Contribution value proposition and key differentiators.
- Collaborate with Delivery Leaders to stay connected to operations and delivery practices and share market insights; utilize this network to bring the latest insights to the sales process.
- Keep Sales Executives current on Defined Contribution solutions, trends, and legislative and industry changes.
- Assist Sales Executives in developing prospect sales strategy and provide a point of view.
- Perform discovery and scoping (e.g., identify complexity drivers).
- Work with Sales Executives and Business leaders to develop scope of solution and determine platform.
- Provide input to strategic questions related to defining the opportunity.
- Complete solution workbook and coordinate with Finance and Sales Executives on deal model.
- Tailor materials and demo based on solution, client need, and competitive landscape; create new materials when needed.
- Lead a role in sales meetings, engaging client experts and leaders at the prospect; lead effective solution demos (e.g., Alight Work Life, employer tools) with a focus on outcomes versus feature demos.
- Review, update, and provide input on RFP responses after the initial draft is provided by the proposal team.
- Create responses for Defined Contribution‑related RFP questions where needed.
- Update scope‑related RFP response documents to ensure they match the deal model.
- Create client‑specific Service Schedule.
- Own Defined Contribution‑related follow‑ups (e.g., questions received from Third‑Party Evaluator).
- Assist with periodic review of the RFP library content to ensure responses are compelling and reflect the latest on our solutions.
- Provide input to product owners – insights and feedback from prospects and Third‑Party Evaluators to inform priorities and enhancements.
- Coordinate with business leaders and product owners on scope items that may require special development or staffing.
- Ensure that the latest solution developments are reflected in sales materials and assist with building Subject‑Matter expertise in these areas.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
- Benefits administration and sales knowledge preferred.
- 5+ years of relevant experience in Defined Contribution administration.
- Deep knowledge of Defined Contribution admin and delivery models, strategies, capabilities of administration platforms, and compliance considerations.
- Knowledge of Defined Benefit administration is a plus.
- Demonstrated track record applying domain expertise in client delivery or sales.
- Agility and organizational skills to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple concurrent opportunities.
- Excellent client communication and consulting skills – able to lead engaging conversations, adapt on the fly, and have a point of view.
- Proven experience in building and developing senior client relationships.
- Experience promoting a team environment.
- Flexibility to travel (sometimes on short notice) to support meetings with prospects.
