CHILD Protection Investigator at State of Illinois Belleville, IL

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services seeks a Child Protection Investigator who will receive and investigate reports of alleged child abuse or neglect. The position assesses immediate child safety and initiates appropriate child protection. The role requires strong organizational and communication skills and offers a competitive compensation plan, benefits, and a pension program.

• Serve as Child Protection Investigator.
• Prepare and maintain reports, assessments, and case documentation.
• Select, summarize, and present case material for transfer to a permanency or intact/prevention caseworker.
• Translate and interpret, orally and in writing, for Spanish speaking clients regarding services and forms.
• Determine the need for and coordinate placement of children in substitute care facilities.
• Attend multi‑disciplinary diagnostic and technical staff conferences to assess needed services.
• Transport clients when taking protective custody, placing them in substitute care, or changing placement location.
• Perform other duties as required or assigned within the scope of these duties.

• Preferably requires a master's degree in social work; or
• Requires a master's degree in a related human service field, criminal justice, criminal justice administration, or law enforcement and at least one year of directly related professional experience; or
• Requires a bachelor's degree in social work and one year of directly related professional experience; or
• Requires a bachelor's degree in a related human service field, criminal justice, criminal justice administration, or law enforcement and at least two years of directly related professional experience.
• The college or university issuing the bachelor's or master's degree must be accredited, and the social work program must be approved by the Council on Social Work Education.
• Requires ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.

• Requires a valid driver’s license, daily access to an automobile, proof of vehicle insurance, and ability to travel.
• Requires ability to pass a background check.
• Requires physical, visual, and auditory ability to carry out assigned duties.
• Overtime is a condition of employment, including scheduled, unscheduled, or last‑minute overtime, and may require evenings, weekends, or a 24‑hour on‑call capacity.
