Qualifications

New Jersey Teacher of Physical Education and Health Certification K-12 and Teacher of Vocational Arts/Dance, or, extensive, documented, experience teaching dance privately.

Job Goal

To provide a subject area program and class environment favorable to pupil's learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to develop subject area skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide good foundations for the fulfillment of each student's potential, in accordance with each pupil's ability; to maintain good relationships with parents, and with other staff members.

Performance

Responsibilities
  • Implement instructional goals of School District within limits of the resources of the district.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials where applicable to adapt curriculum to the needs of the student. Provides appropriate learning experiences through instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standard of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere and encourages pupils toward self-discipline.
  • Evaluates and keeps records of progress of pupil academic growth.
  • Strives for satisfactory pupil progress and growth toward stated objectives of instruction.
  • Communicates through conferences and other means with parents to discuss pupil progress.
  • Cooperates with other staff to identify and realize needs of pupils.
  • Strives to maintain professional competence and continuance improvement through in-service activities and selected professional growth activities.
  • Performs assigned out-of- classroom activities during the school day.
  • Administers pupil assessment instruments.
  • Enforces school rules, administrative regulations approved by Superintendent and Board policy.
  • Participates in curriculum development.
  • Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities.
  • Encourages pupils to continue their education after graduation.
  • To teach 5 (five) periods of dance daily.
  • Issue and maintain inventory of equipment and music.
  • To direct evening performances.
  • To direct dance performances at schools within the district, special community events, competitions, festivals, and trips.
  • To work cooperatively with other performance groups in the district as well as the Belleville Music Parents Association.
  • To comply with the requirements of the Planning/Implementation AIE Grant, from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, Artist-in-education residency program, which includes attendance at the Artist/Teacher Institute (ATI), a ten‑day summer workshop for educators and artists.
  • Evaluation

    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy on evaluation of professional personnel.

    • District application and resume.
    • Required documentation outlined in the qualifications above.
    • A minimum of three letters of reference from former employers, teachers, professors or other professional sources, or copies of recent evaluations of teaching performance.
    • Official College Transcripts.
    • Writing sample (as may be required). Employment interview.
    Employment Terms
    • Work year of ten months with days and calendar pursuant to contract.
    • Salary or hourly/yearly wage, benefits, and leave time as negotiated.
    • Conditions established by laws and codes of the state, and policies, rules and regulations established by the Board of Education (N.J.S.A. 18A:27-4 et. seq.).
