Responsibilities
  • Direct patient care to ensure standards of care and regulatory compliance.
  • Apply nursing process for patient care delivery.
  • Treat patients, families and staff with dignity, respect and compassion.
  • Provide nursing administrative coverage as needed.
  • Ensure staffing levels meet patient requirements.
  • Demonstrate managerial and clinical judgment in staffing assignments.
  • Conduct nursing rounds to oversee quality of care and patient satisfaction.
  • Establish, monitor and enhance communication channels enabling open communication.
  • Hold regular meetings for timely two-way communication among teams, departments and business entities.
  • Maintain effective communication with community, medical staff, hospital management, and staff.
  • Inform Nurse Manager of updates via accurate written and verbal reports.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures that guide service provision.
  • Promote staff effectiveness and competency through goal setting, role modeling and learning opportunities.
  • Promote quality of patient care: develop/revise patient care delivery plans; identify and correct problems; recommend performance indicators; enforce national patient safety goals; communicate QA & PI findings; ensure patient family education.
  • Maintain clinical knowledge and act as a clinical resource for unit-specific patient populations.
  • Determine qualifications and competence of department personnel.
  • Provide orientation, in‑service training, and continuing education for all department personnel.
  • Coordinate the effective use of personnel and supplies.
  • Evaluate care rendered by private duty and agency staff; document recommendations.
  • Communicate evaluations to Staffing Coordinator for permanent file.
  • Operate autonomously within CMMC philosophy and policies.
  • Maintain professional affiliations and pursue professional growth with current trends.
  • Participate in ongoing education and obtain additional certifications as appropriate.
