Farallon Consulting L.L.C. has a part-time opening for an experienced Technical Editor in any state where Farallon operates - WA, OR, CA. The role averages 24 hours per week and occasionally requires 40-hour weeks for coverage.

What We Are Looking For

Farallon is looking for a part-time Technical Editor knowledgeable about editing, formatting, writing, cataloging, and maintaining technical and marketing documents with adherence to Farallon’s Style Guide and strict company protocols. Primary work involves reviewing, formatting, and editing a variety of documents including reports, proposals, technical memoranda, letters, cost estimate spreadsheets, procedures, manuals, and marketing and related materials. Individual consults with technical staff as needed to ensure accurate, concise, and consistent document presentation.

What You Will Be Doing At Farallon
  • Provide developmental editing and copyediting for a wide range of technical documents, including environmental reports, compliance reports, and proposals.
  • Apply sound editorial judgment while adhering to grammar rules and/or client-specific style guidelines.
  • Identify and address inconsistencies in structure, formatting, and usage.
  • Ensure correct and consistent use of terminology, acronyms, punctuation, in-text citations, and references.
  • Ensure consistency and agreement across text, tables, and figures.
  • Incorporate text revisions, changes in writing approach and/or layout, and standardize text for company voice.
  • Communicate with technical staff and subject matter experts to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, and quality of deliverables.
  • Collaborate with editorial staff to ensure consistent editing practices among editors and across documents.
  • Edit and format documents in Microsoft Word using tracked changes.
  • Edit and format data tables and cost estimates in Microsoft Excel.
  • Compile and optimize PDFs using Adobe Acrobat.
Requirements

What you will need to succeed...

  • 3+ years of recent editing experience in a technical or professional services environment.
  • Familiarity with environmental science or AEC terminology and document types.
  • A strong command of grammar, punctuation, and editorial judgment.
  • Skilled in clear and professional written and verbal communication.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat and comfort working in SharePoint and document templates.
  • The ability to switch easily between in-house style, the Chicago Manual of Style, and client-specific style guides.
  • The ability to work independently and accept direction on assigned tasks.
  • The ability to work with a team to meet tight or shifting deadlines.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing document directives and deadlines.
