WUSA9 in Washington, D.C. is seeking an energetic, dynamic, and highly engaging Meteorologist to join our powerhouse WUSA9 Mornings team. This is a signature on-air role in one of the country’s most competitive and weather-sensitive markets. We’re looking for a proven communicator with a track record of connecting with audiences on all platforms. The ideal candidate is a vibrant storyteller, a strong scientist, and a multi-platform performer who understands how to serve viewers wherever they are.

You thrive in fast-paced morning news, know how to create moments that break through, and bring an authentic, warm personality that viewers wake up wanting to watch. Our next meteorologist is a self-starter who embraces new technology, edits your own mobile shorts, experiments with innovative presentation styles, and can translate complex weather into clear, actionable information. You’ll work collaboratively with our team to plan big coverage moments, explainers, and daily content that elevates the WUSA9 brand.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare and deliver accurate, engaging, and conversation-starting forecasts across all platforms—linear, streaming, mobile, digital, and social.
  • Provide urgent, authoritative severe weather coverage, including live cut-ins and extended coverage when necessary.
  • Produce clean, creative, visually compelling graphics that help viewers understand what to expect and why it matters.
  • Report from the field and the newsroom assigned, elevating weather stories that impact the DMV.
  • Collaborate daily with producers, anchors, and the weather team to plan morning content, explainers, and big event coverage.
  • Update the WUSA9 app, website, and social platforms with timely forecasts, videos, and viewer engagement posts.
  • Fill in on other shifts as needed.
  • Participate in community events and represent WUSA9 with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Perform additional special projects or duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • BA/BS degree in Meteorology, Geoscience, Atmospheric Science, or related field.
  • National Weather Association and/or AMS Seal.
  • 8–10 years of on-air meteorology experience in a large market preferred.
  • Proven ability to engage and grow audiences on social and digital platforms.
  • Proficiency with weather systems, newsroom computer systems, and digital content management tools.
  • Strong communication skills—clear, conversational, authentic, and viewer-focused.
Benefits
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas options.
  • Fertility, surrogacy, and adoption assistance.
  • Disability and life insurance.
  • Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) and nine paid holidays per year.
  • 401(k) plan with 100% match up to 4% of pay.
  • Free virtual doctor’s appointments with Teladoc and free therapy sessions with Spring Health.
