Join us for another great summer at MBYC Youth Sailing. The Instructor team consists of a Sailing Director, an Assistant Director, 8‑10 Senior Instructors, 8‑10 Junior Instructors and Volunteer Instructors. MBYC YS offers 10 week‑long camps between mid‑June to August. Instructors work with campers between the ages of 8 to 18 in Opti, Laser, FJ and C420 camps. Friday afternoons are Open Sailing Sessions for all campers and Instructors rotate facilitating that program.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Junior Instructors (JI) work 2‑3 weeks of camp from 8:45 am to 4:15 pm, Monday to Friday
  • Potential for additional working weeks for those willing and able
  • Assist the Senior Instructors (SI) with daily camp tasks
  • Facilitating camp games during check‑in, check‑out and on the dock
  • Assist docking and launching boats
  • Assist campers in rigging and derigging their boats as needed
  • Assist lifting and storage of boats in the morning and afternoon
  • Sail with a camper if needed
  • Engage in communication with Senior Instructor about plans for the next day
  • Reporting to the Youth Sail Director (SD) each afternoon about how the day went
  • There may be opportunities to get experience instructing campers in lessons or on the water instruction under SI supervision and get feedback if interested
  • You will be expected to work at least one after‑camps Open Sail session on Friday afternoons from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm
  • There may be opportunities for overtime teaching 1 on 1 private lessons for those JIs with their completed Level 1 Certification
  • Any other responsibilities or duties assigned by the AD, SD or YS Chairs
Required Certification
  • At least 16 by the first week of camps in June
  • Safesport Certification
  • Washington State Boater Card
  • First Aid and CPR Certification

MUST be able to attend the Instructor Orientation on June 8, 2024 or include in your application why you are unable to attend.

Reports to:

Senior Instructor (SI) of assigned camp each week

The MBYC Youth Sail Instructor Team will include the Sailing Director (SD), Assistant Director (AD) and Senior Instructors (SI). The SIs will report to the AD when the SD is not present. Should the AD not be present, an interim AD will be assigned. The SIs are responsible for supervising their assigned Junior (JI) and Volunteers Instructors (VI) for their respective camp week.

A total of one to two JI’s will support each program session. A VI will support the camp they are assigned to.
