Position Objective

The role of the Korean Bilingual Programs Curriculum Developer is to provide support and facilitate the development of instructional materials aligned to State Standards for adoption and implementation in classrooms in BSD. Additionally, the role will focus on development and implementation of high‑quality professional development for Korean bilingual program teachers that will enable them to support student learning aligned with the BSD Framework for Teaching and the K‑5 Literacy Framework.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate professional development for school‑based instructional technology curriculum leaders and teachers to support Korean Bilingual Instruction on topics such as language acquisition, culturally and linguistically responsive education, data analysis, WIDA, UDL and standards‑based instruction.
  • Develop budget for the Korean Bilingual Program.
  • Complete state reports, as required.
  • Facilitate curriculum development, improvement, and adoption in Korean Bilingual Programs.
  • Work directly with teachers to support them in effectively implementing the district strategic Plan.
  • Co‑plan and co‑teach with classroom teachers.
  • Create, adapt, and align common curriculum and common assessments in Korean Language Arts.
  • Research and remain abreast of curriculum/technology issues, programs and needs, and state and national curricular trends.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of curriculum/technology resources and other appropriate accommodations that address special needs students (Advanced Learning, MLL, students with IEP’s).
  • Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports directly to the Director of P‑12 Multilingual Programs.
  • Supervises program staff as delineated by the Director of P‑12 Multilingual Programs.
Education & Experience
  • Minimum of three years teaching experience, preferably with a variety of elementary content and Korean course expertise.
  • Instructional/Professional fluency in Korean.
  • Experience in adapting and developing curriculum for multilingual learners in a bilingual program setting.
  • Preferred: Bilingual or multilingual;
    Graduate degree in language, multilingual education, and/or educational leadership.
  • Allowable substitutions:
    Experience may be substituted depending upon other qualifications.
Licensing Requirements
  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate.
  • Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a Bilingual Education, ELL and WL Korean, or equivalent endorsement.
Knowledge
  • Expertise in Korean language and literacy development, bilingual programs, technology and high‑quality instruction.
  • Understanding of effective practices for bilingual programs and language acquisition.
  • Best practices for supporting bilingual program teachers, bilingual students, and students with disabilities in the bilingual program setting.
  • Knowledge of how language acquisition affects learning; working knowledge and effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners.
  • Thorough knowledge of the web‑based Bellevue School District curriculum.
  • Eagerness to learn new technology.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of systematic approaches to support student achievement.
  • Culturally and linguistically responsive teaching, Universal Design for Learning and best practices in providing meaningful access to grade level and above teaching and learning.
  • Best practices in adult learning and professional development; effective observation, coaching, and/or mentoring techniques.
