Position: MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE TEACHER(S) 2025-26 0.8 FTE to 1.0 FTE

Position Objective

This position is responsible for teaching science courses to students in a career and technical education program that meets the Washington State Frameworks and Bellevue School District approved guidelines.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Center instruction on high expectations for student achievement by establishing a learning culture, providing clear communication with students, and engaging students in learning.
  • Demonstrate effective teaching practices through use of questioning and discussion techniques and reflection on teaching.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs, demonstrating flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Provide a clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum through knowledge of content and pedagogy, setting instructional outcomes, and designing coherent instruction.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment by creating respect and rapport, managing classroom procedures, student behavior, and organizing a safe physical space for learning.
  • Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve learning, design assessments, use assessment in instruction, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through effective ongoing communication.
  • Exhibit collaborative and collegial practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning.
  • Participate in a professional community, grow and develop professionally, and demonstrate professionalism.
  • Annually establish student growth goals to ensure student growth over time.
  • Direct the activities of assigned non‑certificated personnel.
  • Attend or participate in all required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary by the District or building principal.
  • Participate in site‑based decision‑making processes.
Reporting Relationships
  • Reports directly to and is supervised by the Building Administrator.
Education and Experience

Required:

Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with an endorsement in science.

Knowledge
  • Knowledge of Bellevue School District's curriculum and instructional practices such as teacher‑directed instruction, literature‑based reading, problem‑based learning, math problem‑solving and use of math manipulatives, cooperative learning, and integrated curriculum.
Skills
  • Training in and/or direct experience with middle school aged students.
  • Experience instructing science, including laboratory and hands‑on experiences for students.
  • Commitment to the District's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Commitment to equity through culturally relevant teaching practices and high expectations for all students.
  • Provide high quality instruction through knowledge of differentiated instructional practices and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Ability and skills to individualize instruction, working with gifted, mainstreamed special education, English language learners, and students from diverse cultural and social backgrounds.
  • Develop students’ technology literacy.
  • Work in a collaborative or team approach.
  • Communicate effectively, professionally, collaboratively, and positively with students, parents, and colleagues, orally and in writing.
  • Work with students in multi‑aged groups.
  • Use varied assessments, including performance tasks, portfolios, and student self‑assessment.
  • Attend ongoing professional development activities such as college coursework, professional associations, workshops, and in‑service opportunities.
  • Exhibit a strong and positive attitude with the belief that each student can be taught and has the right and capacity to achieve personal academic excellence.
  • Perform all duties in accordance with applicable Board policies and district and legal requirements.
  • Meet and maintain punctuality and attendance expectations.
