Salary Information
  • Assistant Professor: Annual Minimum Salary $158,300 – Annual Maximum Salary $266,000 for Full‑Time Status (For 8 hours/week: annual minimum salary $31,661.76 – annual maximum salary $53,198.08)
  • Associate Professor: Annual Minimum Salary $182,100 – Annual Maximum Salary $305,900 for Full‑Time Status (For 8 hours/week: annual minimum salary $36,420.80 – annual maximum salary $61,181.12)
  • Professor: Annual Minimum Salary $209,400 – Annual Maximum Salary $351,800 for Full‑Time Status (For 8 hours/week: annual minimum salary $41,878.72 – annual maximum salary $70,358.08)

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Pro‑rated based on hours/week.

General Summary

The assistant/associate/professor will be assigned teaching responsibilities as a faculty member in the Department of Medicine. The position reports to the Chair of the Department and focuses on teaching in the College of Osteopathic Medicine program. It participates in developing and implementing curricula that integrate medical specialties in team‑based, large and small group learning environments. Primary teaching assignments include clinical skills and decision making, and topics relevant to internal medicine practice.

Typical responsibilities involve classroom teaching for second‑year medical students.

Essential Job Functions
  • Continuously prepares and teaches assigned course
  • Student advisement/office hours
  • Develops course syllabus
  • Administration of examinations
  • Clinical practice as appropriate
  • Understand accreditation standards and expectations specific to the department and adhere to policies and procedures to meet or exceed such standards
  • Conducts self appropriately and consistently in accordance with the philosophy and mission of PNWU
  • Other duties as assigned
Requirements

Education:

  • Professional degree (D.O., M.D.) from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Completion of an internal medicine residency and nephrology fellowship; currently board eligible or board certified in internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine or the American Board of Internal Medicine, and in nephrology by the American Board of Internal Medicine or the American Osteopathic Association
  • Current medical license in any state; preference for those licensed in Washington
  • Current DEA certification

Preferred:

  • A team player who values collaboration, mutual support, and team cohesion
  • Knowledge of instructional technologies
  • Experience with curricular and instructional design, and training or experience in educational theory and/or evaluation
  • Experience using innovative teaching methods which might include team‑based learning, “flipped classroom”, problem‑based learning, distance learning, interactive large group presentation, audience response systems, curriculum delivery systems (e.g., Moodle), and proficiency in exam item writing (in the style of the United States Medical Licensing Examination or the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Licensing Examination)

Experience:

  • Prior teaching experience in an academic setting
  • Possess exceptional credentials in scholarly, professional and/or individual achievement
  • Extensive professional experience with an exemplary record for achievement

Desired Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Strong organization, interpersonal, communication, presentation, planning skills; strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to work in a team and flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; ability to problem solve by analyzing issues and creating action plans; ability to manage projects and people and prioritize and self‑direct workflow; and ability to work with and manage different computer programs and databases.
