Position Description

The English Department is now accepting applications for Part Time Lecturers for the  academic year. These positions are non-tenure eligible with a 9-month service period (September 16 – June 15) and an anticipated start date of September 16, 2026. Appointments are determined by program need, available funding, and the eligible pool of candidates. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, prior teaching experience in a UW Writing Program.

We will assemble a pool of qualified candidates in April 2026 and anticipate making offers as soon as possible. After initial offers are made in the spring and/or summer, additional hires, quarters and courses may be added depending on available funding.

Duties:
The duties will include teaching courses in the Program in Writing & Rhetoric (PWR), the Program for Writing Across Campus (PWAC), upper division English literature and language courses, and/or creative writing courses.

Salary:
The appointment will be at 50% FTE of the full-time rate. The full-time base salary range for this position will be $7,242 - $7,967 per month, prorated based on the appointment FTE, and commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Eligibility:
To be eligible for an offer for Autumn Quarter 2026, applicants must have received their terminal degree by the end of Summer Quarter 2026. Priority for full year offers will be given to those who have completed their Ph.D. by the end of Spring Quarter 2026. Applicants with satisfactory progress toward the degree and demonstrated teaching excellence will be given preference.

Applicants completing their degree during Summer Quarter may receive an offer contingent on completion of the degree during summer quarter. To be eligible for appointments starting Winter Quarter 2027, the terminal degree must be completed before the end of Autumn Quarter 2026. Anyone expecting to be eligible anytime in the coming year must apply now, indicating the quarter in which they expect to complete the degree.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States to be considered. Visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
