OverviewOpen Window School (K‑8, coed, 360 student day school) seeks candidates for its Lower School Associate Teacher position. Located on a beautiful campus in Bellevue, Washington, the school serves gifted students with an emphasis on project-based learning and real-world application.
Position OverviewThe Middle School Innovation & Technology Associate Teacher will support grades 5‑8 advanced computer science curriculum in our fully outfitted Innovation & Technology Lab. Responsibilities include teaching advanced computer science and design‑thinking skills, collaborating with faculty to design interdisciplinary activities, and maintaining the lab environment.
Major Areas of Responsibility /Specific Duties
- Assist with the teaching of grades 5‑8 computer science courses and electives.
- Assist with the organization, maintenance, and inventory of hardware, software, and other materials in the Innovation & Technology Lab.
- Ensure safety of students as they use lab tools.
- Support positive behavior and student responsibility in the classroom.
- Take initiative with tasks that keep a classroom running smoothly.
- Support a learning environment that engages students from diverse backgrounds.
- Assume the Lead Innovation & Technology Teacher role when necessary.
- Serve as a substitute teacher when needed in all subject areas of the middle school.
- Support students one‑on‑one and in small groups in tutorial.
- Lead a student club and a student leadership group.
- Collaborate with the associate teacher team to design and implement student team‑building activities or other projects for the advisory program.
- Chaperone overnight trips and field trips.
- Attend required in‑service days, meetings, seminars, and training sessions.
- Engage actively in the school community by attending and participating in school events, sometimes in the evening.
- Associate or bachelor's degree and/or relevant experience. Computer science degree or teaching experience preferred.
- Experience working with middle‑school students, preferably in a classroom setting.
- Interest in computer science, design thinking, and project‑based learning.
- Creative, resourceful, adaptive, and flexible.
- Ability to pivot between responsibilities to meet team needs.
- Organized and responsible.
- Ability to work well both independently and in a team.
- Supports active engagement in serving a diverse community in a culture of belonging.
- Interest in the social‑emotional development of adolescents.
- Supports our mission to nurture and inspire students of high intellectual potential.
- Demonstrated professional, warm, and engaging demeanor toward families, colleagues, and the public.
- Experience with intellectually gifted children a plus.
- Teaching certificate or coursework relevant to education and/or computer science a plus.

Compensation: $47,910 per year
Position Classification:
Exempt, Full Time, benefit eligible
Hours:
8:00 am – 4:00 pm, 5:00 pm on Tuesdays. Some commitments outside these hours include school events and overnight middle‑school trips.
