Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE: This position centers instruction on high expectations for student achievement by establishing a culture for learning, providing clear communication with students, and engaging students in learning.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Demonstrate effective teaching practices through use of questioning and discussion techniques and reflection on teaching.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs, demonstrated through knowledge of students and flexibility.
  • Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum through knowledge of content and pedagogy, setting instructional outcomes, resources, and coherent instruction.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment with respect and rapport, manage classroom procedures, student behavior, and a safe physical space for learning.
  • Use multiple student data elements to modify instruction and improve learning; design assessments, use assessment in instruction, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community through effective ongoing communication.
  • Exhibit collaborative practices focused on improving instructional practice and student learning; participate in a professional community for growth and professionalism.
  • Annually establish student growth goals to ensure progress over time.
  • Direct activities of assigned non-certificated personnel.
  • Attend or participate in required staff meetings and activities to accomplish position objectives and for professional development.
  • Provide high-quality instruction through differentiated instructional practices and data-driven decision-making.
  • Participate in site-based decision-making processes.
  • Arabic language instruction 20% - 50% of the instructional day.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports directly to and is supervised by the Building Administrator.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS
  • Required: Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of valid Washington state teaching certification with endorsement in Elementary Education.
  • Preferred: Designated World Language endorsement. If not held, endorsement must be completed upon employment.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • Required: Possess or qualify for immediate issuance of a valid Washington State teaching certificate with endorsement in K-5 elementary education.
  • Fluency in Arabic.
DESIRED
  • Teaching experience in Arabic language.
KNOWLEDGE
  • Commitment to the District's vision, mission, and goals.
  • Equity through culturally relevant teaching practices and high expectations for all students.
  • Knowledge of Bellevue School District curriculum and instructional practices (teacher-directed instruction, literature-based reading, problem-based learning, math problem-solving with manipulatives, cooperative learning, integrated curriculum).
SKILLS
  • Ability to individualize instruction and work with a full range of students (gifted, mainstreamed, special education, English learners, diverse backgrounds).
  • Develop students’ technology literacy.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and parents, orally and in writing.
  • Work with students in multi-aged groups and use varied assessments (performance tasks, portfolios, self-assessment).
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and maintain a positive belief in each student’s ability to succeed.
  • Adhere to board policies, district and legal requirements; maintain punctuality and attendance.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
