Preschool Coach

The Preschool Coach supports preschool programs in implementing high-quality instructional practices aligned with ECEAP and Washington State's Early Achievers framework. This role focuses on practice-based coaching, continuous quality improvement, and strengthening teaching practices to improve outcomes for young children and families.

The coach partners with site teams to build reflective practices, develop and monitor quality improvement plans, and ensure alignment with program standards and requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Supports sites in the Early Achievers continuous quality improvement process and quality recognition cycles.
  • Partners with site leadership and teaching staff to identify goals and develop Quality Improvement Plans (QIPs) with clear action steps.
  • Partners with Preschool Curriculum Developers on feedback and goals.
  • Offers timely, specific feedback to educators to support professional growth and improved outcomes for children.
  • Supports sites in completing remedial or corrective actions within required timelines, when applicable.
  • Uses coaching strategies that support classroom environment and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Builds strong, trusting relationships that foster reflective practice, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Documents coaching activities and maintains required program records.
  • Enters required data, including coaching interactions, site supports, and professional development activities.
  • Utilizes tools such as Coaching Companion to facilitate coaching cycles and support educator growth.
  • Participates in required professional development and training.
  • Collaborates with district staff and administrators to align coaching supports with program goals.
  • May make immediate interventions within the preschool setting.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Reporting relationships:
Reports directly to and is supervised by the Preschool Operations Coordinator.

Education and experience (positions in this class typically require):

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or related field OR bachelor's degree with at least 30 credits in Early Childhood Education.
  • Minimum of two (2) years working with young children in a group setting.
  • Experience as an early learning coach, mentor, consultant, or trainer.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Early Achievers and adult coaching practices.
  • Experience supporting inclusive programs.

Licensing requirements (positions in this class require):

  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Registration in state electronic workforce registry (Merit)
  • Completion of Merit Portable background check
  • TB skin test
  • Food Handler Permit
  • Proof of MMR or immunity to measles
  • Completion of applicable training requirements, including Child Care Basics
  • Valid driver's license

Knowledge and skills (position requirements at entry):

  • Early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practices.
  • Practice-based coaching and adult learning theory.
  • Early Achievers framework and continuous quality improvement.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Culturally responsive and inclusive practices.

Physical requirements:

Positions in this class typically require stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.

Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, odors, chemicals, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, workspace restrictions, and intense noises.

Conditions of employment: 2026-27 CTSA salary classification "Grade 3" range $ 73,467 annual to $ 77,333 annual salary (pro-rated for 207-day calendar assignment), non-exempt (starting at $ 73,467 annual salary) 40 hours per week for a 207-day annual assignment. Medical, dental, vision, long-term disability, and life-insurance eligibility is based upon 630 hours worked within a school year. Retirement provided through Washington State Department of Retirement Systems.

Other benefits include vacation and paid holidays.
