Position Purpose

The Graduation Success Coach serves as a critical member of a growing team of professionals committed to a 100% graduation initiative. Specifically focusing on our work with high school students, this position works closely with a group of high school students, school staff, local community organizations and professional groups to implement the Graduation Success program for students at risk of not graduating.

It requires a commitment to student advocacy, racial equity and a deep understanding of the concerns various populations of students may face (non-traditional students, students of color, first generation college students, transfer students, etc.).

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Coach identified students via one‑on‑one and small group sessions in areas related to program goals such as academics, personal growth, leadership and service, health and wellness, college and financial aid planning etc.
  • Facilitate credit retrieval through online & blended learning opportunities
  • Create and facilitate workshops for students at the partner high schools
  • Collaborate with the Equity department to implement college tours, civic engagement opportunities shadow professionals and college students, field trips, etc.
  • Coordinate and co‑facilitate summer programs for identified students
  • Collect and maintain accurate and appropriate data on program performance indicators
  • Collaborate with guidance & support staff, building leaders and in‑school community partners to promote positive college going and civically engaged community
  • Support the organization’s development strategies at events
  • Conduct regularly scheduled home visits to provide support and communication
  • Represent the organization at relevant college access and success events
  • Provides training and support for teachers
  • Perform additional duties as required
  • Occasional evenings & weekends when required
Reporting Relationship
  • Reports to and is directly supervised by Supervisor of Graduation Success.
Required EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • A.A. Degree
Preferred
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in social work, counseling, or education
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience providing case management, mentoring, wrap around supports or mental health services
  • Experience working with middle and/or high school students
  • Community partner experience and outreach
  • Fluent in written and verbal Spanish
Allowable Substitutions
  • 2 years industry experience can substitute for A.A. degree
LICENSING REQUIREMENTS (positions In This Class Typically Require)
  • Washington State Driver’s License required
KNOWLEDGE (position Requirements At Entry)
  • Understands college requirements and career expectations for students
  • Understands high school graduation requirements
  • Aware of mandated reporting requirements
  • Familiarity with the communities, or those similar to, within the Bellevue School District
  • Aware of non‑profit and community resources to assist students identified for support
SKILLS (position Requirements At Entry)
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze student needs and appropriate resources from both the school and community
  • Possesses program development skills
  • Utilizes and models effective leadership skills
  • Possesses strong communication skills, including conflict resolution strategies
