Masters - Technical Generalist Intern

Job Overview

CDM Smith is looking for a driven Project Controls Specialist Intern with a basic understanding of Earned Value Management and Project Scheduling principles and terms. Under direct supervision, the intern will support the project delivery team by developing basic cost and schedule baselines, collecting and analyzing monthly cost and schedule progress, identifying and assisting in analyzing variances for projects of basic complexity, ensuring risk reserves are updated and integrated into project financial forecasts, and reporting this information in standard formats to leads or management.

• Support compliance with internal procedures such as federal/government regulations and gather project progress information from project managers and team members to update and monitor the project of basic complexity.
• Evaluate and update data regarding schedule dates, percent complete, resource requirements, subcontractor commitments, and project accruals; review schedule progress and productivity of resources with supervisor to ensure accuracy.
• Develop time‑phased project cost and resource forecasts; validate project costs; update requirements as required; monitor progress of project deliverables.
• Perform performance reporting using Earned Value Management; conduct basic financial analysis, including variance, risk, and profit/loss analyses, and prepare routine financial reports.
• Document and assess the impact of project changes on cost and schedule baselines.
• For projects of basic complexity, develop and document project planning considerations and objectives, scope, and milestones to incorporate into the schedule.
• Under direct supervision, develop, maintain, and analyze integrated critical‑path schedules for portions of routine projects and/or a portfolio of smaller projects in accordance with contract specifications; evaluate and raise project early warning signals to the project manager in collaboration with leads or managers.
• Generate and analyze earned‑value reports for basic projects and discuss any observations with supervisor and the project manager.
• Evaluate project execution and impact of developing trends using prescribed methodologies to determine if the project is proceeding within available resources and budget.
• Draft client and internal status reports to communicate cost status and document trends.
• Use appropriate document management protocols to store and retrieve project documentation.
• Perform other duties as required.

• Currently enrolled in a Master’s program.
