Amazon Fulfillment Technologies (AFT) powers the physical engine at the heart of Amazon. AFT builds and operates software, hardware, and processes that run the global network of fulfillment centers that move many millions of units of inventory, employ tens of thousands of people, and ensure that customers get what they want when we promised we would get it to them.

Our environment is global and complex with a variety of software and systems, including industrial machines and protocols. We are constantly innovating in the ways we are automating and accelerating the delivery and receive of products and packages which includes building custom hardware and applying machine learning, image processing, and real‑time data processing using distributed systems.

We are looking for a Hardware Development Engineer, capable of developing next‑gen Industrial computer vision machines and automation solutions for AFT. This position will be exposed to the development of HW products design, optimization, diagnostics development and equipment design. You will work closely with an internal interdisciplinary team, and outside partners to drive key aspects of product definition, execution and test.

You must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within an open collaborative environment. In this role, you will design and develop solutions involving robotics, computer vision machine and industrial machine. You will participate in large‑scale HW projects, supporting global deployments of equipment. This position will be filled with a candidate identified as a future leader, capable of driving AFT into the lead of Industrial HW machine design and we are looking for candidates who are up to the task.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Evaluate system architecture through comprehensive testing; applying systems engineering fundamentals
  • Lead integration efforts for computer vision hardware, collaborating with HW, ME, platform, EE, and SW teams
  • Oversee system design, test, and debug of complex hardware technologies focusing on requirements, interfaces, and performance
  • Develop system validation strategies for manufacturing, system bring‑up, and evaluation
  • Analyze requirements, break down complex issues, and collaborate across teams to resolve integration challenges promptly
  • Lead architecture reviews between development teams and suppliers, ensuring proper interface management
  • Assess supplier capabilities with focus on system integration, provide risk mitigation, and conduct impact assessments
  • Analyze EV and PV build data from systems perspective, present performance summaries, and adjust specifications based on findings
  • Lead troubleshooting across software, firmware, and hardware domains, identifying root causes and engaging partners for resolution
  • Support integration activities at manufacturing facilities and Fulfillment Centers, ensuring successful system deployment
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, engineering technology or equivalent, or 5+ years of manufacturing equipment development experience
  • Experience developing test strategies and plans for complex hardware/software systems or systems of systems
  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities and experience in managing and troubleshooting network
  • Experience in supply chain, commodity, and supplier management in a high volume, global sourcing and operations manufacturing environment with a global supply base of contract manufacturers
  • Experience with computer vision hardware systems and ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams across mechanical, electrical, and software engineering
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Solid Works simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
  • Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
