Terra Power’s Molten Chloride Fast Reactor (MCFR) program is commercializing the technology to operate a fast spectrum, chloride salt cooled molten salt reactor. The Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE) is slated to be the first liquid-fueled, fast spectrum reactor built and operated and will be constructed at Idaho National Laboratory.

Terra Power is seeking a Mechanical Design, Lead Engineering Drawing Checker to support the MCFR program and the Molten Chloride Reactor Experiment (MCRE). This position reports to the MCFR Mechanical Design Discipline Management. The role centers on originating and checking engineering drawings, beginning with Detailed Design of the MCRE and evolving toward the design of future advanced reactors. You’ll collaborate with Mechanical Design, system leads, and project engineers in a high-performing, multi-disciplinary environment to deliver high-quality drawings for the MCFR program.
This role is hybrid with minimum four days onsite.

Responsibilities- Create 3D CAD models optimized for future design changes, engineering drawings, and downstream uses
- Create engineering drawings, adhering to ASME Y14.1 and Y14.5 standards
- Check engineering drawings for components, mechanical systems, and equipment layouts to ensure accuracy and compliance with drafting standards
- Provide oversight of drawing setup including file structure, BOMs, standard notes
- Verify fit, form, and function for completeness of designs including clash detection and resolution, tolerance stack up analysis
- Assist with development of group design standards such as managing templates, establishing reference drawings, and supporting a CAD design manual
- Assist in coordination of CAD group deliverables including task management
- Manage vendor CAD file submissions
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering drawing quality, GD&T, and tolerance stack analysis skills across the team through one-on-one mentoring and group training activities where required
- Associates degree in Science or Engineering and 10 years of relevant experience. Experience Level may be partially substituted for advanced degree depending on position relevance
- A minimum of 10 years of CAD proficiency required, Solid Works/AutoCAD preferred
- Demonstrated experience in mechanical system and machine design
- Demonstrated experience using ASME Y14.1 drawing development/review and ASME Y14.5 principles and application
- Demonstrated experience with tolerance analysis stack-ups
- Experience using a product data management (PDM) system
- Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA)
- Nuclear design experience preferred
- Organized and highly detail oriented
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
- Creative thinking with strong problem-solving skills
- Ability to work multiple tasks concurrently with minimal direction
