The Transportation Department is looking for a Senior Transportation Development Construction Engineer to join the City's team of highly experienced transportation professionals. Bellevue is recognized for its many advancements in transportation approaches and technologies. We are excited to provide an opportunity for an enthusiastic engineer to join our progressive team.
You will be responsible for providing construction engineering and oversight for transportation elements during the construction phase of development projects to the final of development projects, as well as reviewing construction plans for transportation facilities on commercial and residential developments for compliance with the City Transportation Design Manual, construction and inspection standards, including ADA requirements. You will bring your significant experience in both the review of civil engineering design plans and solving engineering issues for development projects.
You will also have opportunities to build teams to address areas of need and to participate in the leadership of the Transportation Department through action teams. This position does not have direct supervisory responsibility over other positions, although you may act as lead worker to other engineering staff.

- Provides construction engineering and oversight to address various transportation issues during the construction phase of development projects. Common engineering responsibilities include ADA compliance, resolving plan errors, directing engineering solutions to field issues, attending site visits to construction sites, coordinating post-revision design changes, and coordinating issues with the design review team and right-of-way inspectors.
- Oversees the construction closeout of development projects for Transportation, which include site visits to off-site construction projects using a company vehicle.
- Oversees assurance devices for the transportation development review group.
- Reviews engineering plans for compliance with engineering standards and project requirements.
- Reviews traffic analysis prepared by consultants.
- Conducts engineering analysis to identify areas of concern.
- Works with other staff to resolve project issues as part of an interdepartmental team.
- Provides excellent customer service to City residents and those doing business with the City.
- Interprets, applies, and ensures compliance with codes, standards, specifications, policies, and procedures; ensures compliance with standard engineering principles for review of infrastructure plans.
- Confers and advises with staff and developer representatives on acceptable design alternatives and solutions; works with developer representatives for plan design changes.
- Manages a complex workload with competing schedules and deadlines.
- Participates in Department and City efforts to provide stellar community outcomes through the City’s shared leadership philosophy.
- Develops mitigating measures to impose as conditions for projects with unmitigated impacts.
- Employs considerable judgment and independence in code interpretation and in exploring alternatives with project proponents.
- Represents the Transportation Department at the Permit Center. Answers general and technical transportation questions from the public.
- Uses the city permit tracking and time-keeping systems to maintain accurate records of current status of projects, billable time spent, and workload.
