Overview
Jacobs solves critical problems by designing and building state‑of‑the‑art facilities that improve cities and the environment. This mechanical engineer role focuses on HVAC and mechanical utility systems for high‑profile federal and defense projects.
Responsibilities- Develop conceptual and basis‑of‑design level design approaches and documentation.
- Create HVAC and plant utility system philosophies, equipment specifications, and construction details.
- Perform temperature, humidity, and utility load calculations; develop airflow diagrams, pressurization plans, and ductwork/piping plans.
- Prepare building management system control philosophy, details, and sequence of operations.
- Assist construction through submittal reviews, RFI responses, field visits, and system start‑up support.
- Direct Revit designers and use Revit as needed.
- Manage mechanical/utility scope for project budgets and schedules.
- Travel to client sites as required for development and implementation.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license.
- At least 10 years of experience in HVAC/Mechanical building design for federal, DoD, or defense contractor projects.
- Experience working in a multi‑discipline environment.
- Proficiency with Revit.
- Experience with load calculation/energy modeling software such as Trane Trace 700, Trace 3D Plus, Carrier HAP, etc.
- Knowledge of building codes & standards (International Mechanical Code, UFC’s, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- United States Citizenship.
- Leadership experience mentoring junior staff.
- Design experience for hydronic heating and cooling systems (air‑cooled chillers, water‑cooled chillers, hot water boilers).
- Experience with Navisworks and Bluebeam.
The base salary range is $ to $, varying by location and experience.
