Position Overview
Puget Sound Energy’s Energy Resources Major Projects technical team seeks a Senior Engineer to support a decarbonized energy system. The role provides technical due diligence and engineering expertise for the development of renewable energy assets—including solar, energy storage, wind, and other technologies—to strengthen PSE’s generation portfolio. Candidates should have an electrical or civil engineering background with significant experience in utility‑scale solar projects (>50 MW), including diligence, feasibility analysis, design reviews, and construction best practices.
This is a hybrid role based at PSE’s headquarters in Bellevue, WA. Work arrangements will be discussed during the interview process.
Job Responsibilities- Interpret and/or modify available guidelines for application to existing problems or processes.
- Prepare complex designs, standards, studies, and analyses.
- Provide detailed design reviews of internal or external technical documents.
- Prepare cost estimates and project evaluations without direct supervision.
- Plan and develop project budgets with appropriate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with codes, standards, and design, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Identify potential areas of weakness and initiate corrective action.
- Document and share work with others to strengthen the workforce.
- Communicate solutions to personnel with varied educational and employment backgrounds, tailoring messages to PSE’s business environment.
- Support emergency response work, including immediate and extended restoration efforts due to weather or other system failures.
- May lead or coordinate the work of junior engineers, assistants, field technicians, and contractors or consultants on specific projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Upholds PSE’s safety compliance standards in all work. This job is considered “safety sensitive” under RCW 49.44.240 and requires pre‑employment drug screening for marijuana and its metabolites.
Minimum Qualifications- Bachelor of Science degree or PE license in electrical, mechanical, civil, or other appropriate engineering field. A PE license may qualify in lieu of a degree.
- Substantial experience (typically eight or more years) in planning, design, specification preparation, technical field work, project cost estimating, and scheduling for a degreed engineer.
- Demonstrated organization, documentation, prioritization, and project‑management skills.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- At least 5–7 years of experience in the planning, design, and construction of utility‑scale solar projects.
- Experience with in the utility industry.
- Familiarity with codes, standards, and equipment used in solar facility design and construction.
- Bachelor of Science degree in electrical or civil engineering.
- Professional Engineering license.
- Knowledge of engineering economics and cost estimating practices.
- Experience with technical management of complex, multimillion‑dollar engineering projects.
The pay range for this position is $–$, and the role is eligible for annual goal‑based incentive bonuses.
