The Smart Mobility Practice is seeking a Senior Transportation Planner in Seattle, WA;
Bellevue, WA;
Tacoma, WA; or Olympia, WA.

This role will focus on the planning of multimodal transportation facilities for public agencies, setting up projects to move forward into design.

As a Project Manager or Task Leader, this position will manage planning and design teams and tasks for transportation projects that may involve transportation master plans, comprehensive plans, feasibility studies, corridor studies, transportation safety studies, parking studies, transportation system plans, safe routes to school plans, complete streets studies, and other transportation studies as needed. The position will also have the opportunity to supervise and mentor team members and help grow the Puget Sound Region team and overall DEA Smart Mobility practice.

You’ll Do

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Delivery: Manage planning studies of varying degrees including scope, schedule, quality, and financial management
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction and task leadership for transportation projects and collaborate with Smart Mobility leaders in other markets and across DEA’s diverse business units, markets, and technical practices to assist with staffing to fulfill project and business development opportunities.
  • Business Development: Provide leadership and assistance in cultivating and maintaining effective client relationships to support business development opportunities.
  • Staff Development: Promote employee development with mentoring and training for junior staff.
What You Bring

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in urban or regional planning, transportation engineering, urban design, or closely related field.
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience with transportation planning and engineering studies.
  • Recent and relevant transportation project or transportation plan development experience in the Puget Sound Region.
  • Collaborative team player who communicates effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Takes ownership and shows initiative in delivering high-quality work.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certification as an AICP and/or Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Strong professional relationships in the Puget Sound Region.
  • Experience leading project teams and managing projects in the transportation planning field.
  • Experience training others in fundamentals of transportation planning.
  • Master’s degree in urban or regional planning, transportation engineering, urban design, or closely related field.
