Job Title:
Lead Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Design Engineer
Type:
Contract Long term
Compensation: $84.00 - $135.00/hour (DOE)
Contractor Work Model:
Remote - offsite
Responsibilities
+ Support advanced nuclear reactor technology projects involving system design, prototype development, plant-level integration, and commissioning activities.
+ Develop, specify, and integrate instrumentation and control systems for advanced reactor applications.
+ Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and scientific teams across diverse locations.
+ Lead I&C system design activities and provide technical oversight to suppliers and subcontractors as appropriate based on experience.
+ Create and review system requirements documents, design descriptions, interface control documents, and engineering specifications.
+ Develop and manage P&IDs, control system architecture drawings, control logic and loop diagrams, and instrument installation drawings.
+ Provide technical oversight and direction to I&C suppliers and subcontractors, supporting technical reviews and project integration.
+ Contribute to design change evaluations and support licensing activities, including Safety Analysis Reports.
+ Lead the development of functional electrical and I&C system designs from requirements through final implementation.
+ Support multidisciplinary integration and continuous improvement initiatives to meet project and regulatory standards.
Requirements
+ B.S. or higher in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a related discipline from an accredited university.
+ Minimum of 15 years of instrumentation & controls engineering experience.
+ Proven experience designing and delivering industrial I&C systems and platforms.
+ Strong knowledge of instrumentation diagnostics, data acquisition, and nuclear codes, standards, licensing, and NRC regulations.
+ Excellent technical writing, communication, and presentation skills.
+ Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing technical requirements.
+ Self-starter with the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams with minimal supervision.
+ Experience in nuclear reactor instrumentation or safety systems design is preferred.
+ Familiarity with IEEE and IEC standards and nuclear quality assurance requirements: 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, ASME NQA-1.
+ Additional preferred skills include designing high-temperature systems (400°C+), experience with PFDs, P&IDs, AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Solid Works, and supporting I&C startup testing procedures.
+ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, collaboration, and meticulous attention to detail.
+ Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, multi-disciplinary environments.
+ Physical ability to sit or stand for extended periods, perform computer-based work, lift up to 25 lbs occasionally, and work remotely.
+ Travel up to 25% as needed.
