Our client is looking for a Mechanical Designer. Located onsite in Bellevue, you will create structural and mechanical design solutions for test-related designs (e.g. test fixtures, test rigs, flow loops, sub-scale test articles, etc.), 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings for the conceptual and preliminary design development of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors. Candidates must have extensive experience in mechanical/structural design and drafting using a mainstream CAD system.

Location: Bellevue, WA - Onsite
Duration: 12 Months with potential to extend
Compensation: $37 - $74 per hour.

Summary: In this role, you will create structural and mechanical design solutions for test-related designs, 3D CAD models, and engineering drawings supporting the conceptual and preliminary design of advanced Generation IV nuclear reactors.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce robust CAD models that facilitate fast-paced design evolution and derivative creation that leverage advanced CAD modeling techniques and methodologies.
  • Develop and maintain highly complex mechanical designs. Pro-actively seek out, research, and propose unique solutions. Conduct trade studies to down-select best option.
  • Use model configurations to support analysis needs, such as:
    Structural, Neutronics, Thermal-Hydraulic, Radiological, Safety, etc.
  • Document design progress, changes, and decisions via internal and external online collaboration work spaces.
  • Create supporting technical presentations, documents, and reports as needed.
  • Create engineering drawings (layout, detail, interface control, general arrangement, etc.) per ASME 14.1 and Y14.5 standards.
  • Perform tolerance stack up calculations.
  • Check and review drawings for accuracy of information and conformance to ASME and company drafting standards via electronic redline process.
  • Ensure and maintain configuration control of models/drawings via the company's product data and product life-cycle management software.
  • Regularly review design group generated documents and propose improvements. Pro-actively contribute to written guidance and standards development.
Qualifications:
  • B.S. degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience.
  • CAD proficiency in Solid Works.
  • Creative thinker with strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Organized and detail oriented, with excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5.
  • Experience checking fabrication drawings.
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA).
  • Experience in Mechanical and Machine Design.
  • A minimum of seven years of CAD proficiency is required, Solid Works preferred.
  • The successful candidate will possess a high degree of trust and integrity, communicate openly, and display respect and a desire to foster teamwork.
Nice to Have:
  • Experience using a product data management (PDM) system.
  • Experience working to quality standard, such as ASME NQA-1 or ISO 9001.
  • Nuclear design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in oversight of supplier and subcontractor organizations.
  • Demonstrated experience in test of complex mechanical components and equipment in high temperature and multi-discipline integration.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience with nuclear quality fabrication, construction, and lifecycle management processes (including In-Service Inspection, material surveillance, vibration programs, equipment qualification programs, etc.).
