Human Factors Scientist (M.S./M.A./Ph.D.)
Exponent is a leading engineering and scientific consulting firm. We are seeking a Human Factors Scientist to support vehicle design and traffic operations projects in Bellevue, WA.
Location- Bellevue, WA (required)
- Manage, plan, and conduct human performance studies and tests with in‑vehicle technologies in environments such as test tracks, simulators, and on‑road driving.
- Review and synthesize research on driver behavior to develop design guidelines and tools that support roadway design and traffic operations.
- Perform human factors reviews and analyses of user‑interface designs and test procedures, including recommendations for design improvements.
- Lead consulting activities related to human factors in vehicle accidents and their prevention, addressing perceptual, motor, cognitive, and decision‑making limitations.
- Conduct hands‑on inspections and analyze human performance as it relates to vehicles and roadways to investigate accidents and injuries.
- Develop and maintain client contacts.
- Participate in multi‑disciplinary projects, providing case management, data processing, and other project support.
- Conduct research to obtain and review technical data, scientific literature, and standards.
- Participate in the design and evaluation of warnings and safety information.
- M.S./M.A. with at least five years of relevant experience or Ph.D. in Human Factors, Engineering Psychology, Experimental, Industrial or Cognitive Psychology, Neuroscience, Kinesiology, or a related discipline.
- Undergraduate degree in psychology, engineering, or a related discipline is a plus.
- Substantial record of applied research in driver behavior and performance (publications, presentations).
- Proficiency in experimental design, human subjects testing, instrumentation, data analysis, and computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, SAS, SPSS, LabVIEW).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong interpersonal skills.
- Assertive, self‑starter who can work accurately under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Currently based in or willing to relocate to the Bellevue, WA area.
- Base salary range: USD $ – $ per year, depending on experience and capabilities.
- Additional compensation includes bi‑weekly bonuses for high‑intensity efforts, annual bonus, and a 401(k) employer contribution of 7% of base salary.
