Mechanical Designer
System One is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design and development of advanced nuclear reactor technology. This position offers the opportunity to work alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams developing next-generation energy systems.
Responsibilities- Develop 3D CAD models and detailed engineering drawings using Solid Works.
- Design mechanical and structural components, test fixtures, flow loops, rigs, and sub-scale test articles.
- Create fabrication and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME standards.
- Perform tolerance stack-up analyses and apply GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
- Support structural, thermal, neutronic, radiological, and safety analyses through CAD model development.
- Conduct design trade studies and recommend optimal engineering solutions.
- Maintain configuration control of models and drawings using PDM/PLM systems.
- Participate in design reviews and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and testing teams.
- Prepare technical documentation, presentations, and engineering reports.
- Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with engineering standards.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Minimum 7 years of CAD design experience with strong proficiency in Solid Works.
- At least 3 years of relevant mechanical design experience.
- Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ASME Y14.5.
- Experience creating fabrication drawings and applying Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with PDM/PLM systems preferred.
- Experience working in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated engineering environment.
- Knowledge of ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, or similar quality standards.
- Experience coordinating with suppliers and subcontractors.
- Familiarity with reactor components, nuclear equipment, or advanced energy technologies.
