Senior Process Design Engineer, Last Mile Engineering
Last Mile Engineering is searching for an innovative and solutions-oriented designer to lead process design and material handling initiatives for next‑generation, ultra‑fast last‑mile fulfillment (FC) building designs. The role will involve designing world‑class FC, delivery and logistics systems in a global context, owning complex problem solving, and leveraging advanced automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies and robotics.
We’re looking to add high‑impact engineers to our team. You will collaborate with internal and external teams to design high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions for our delivery stations across a variety of concepts and template‑based solutions that enhance the effectiveness of Amazon’s last‑mile network.
Ability to travel up to 40% to interact with internal and external business, operational and technical leaders.
Key job responsibilities- Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal processes and material handling solutions, including equipment specification, material flow, process design, site layout, and intellectual property considerations for a modern commercial operation running 24/7.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external vendors and stakeholders to generate high‑quality, cost‑effective solutions within short time frames.
- Simultaneously manage multiple projects and tasks while effectively influencing, negotiating, and communicating with internal and external business partners, contractors, and vendors.
- Provide technical leadership for large‑scale engineering projects, retrofits and building designs.
- Communicate effectively with senior executives, presenting the vision, detailed roadmap, and specific technical solutions to build a compelling business case.
- Conduct detailed design reviews with vendors to develop complex and optimal storage and processing solutions.
- Deep dive into CAD models to develop best‑in‑class solutions from the perspectives of operations, maintenance, safety, and reliability.
- Visit vendor facilities to conduct proof‑of‑concept and functional acceptance tests of designed equipment.
- Visit Amazon FCs to conduct equipment tests, collect data, and drive continuous improvement through data‑driven decisions.
- Carry out continuous improvement pilots on the existing MHE network to enhance the customer experience.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders and leaders through business reviews and white papers.
The Amazon Logistics (AMZL) Central Engineering organization designs, pilots and deploys automation technologies within the AMZL network. The team owns the full life‑cycle of the automation technologies from concept to pilot to full‑scale deployment and continuous improvement post‑deployment.
Through ownership of the lifecycle of automation technologies, the team creates standardized, world‑class material handling equipment (MHE) technologies and critical system designs that drive operational excellence.

Basic Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or 2+ years of Amazon RME (Reliability Maintenance Engineering) experience.
- 5+ years of directly managing and responsible for multiple large projects experience.
- 5+ years of Microsoft Office products and applications experience.
- Experience and strong technical background in relevant fields of automated or non‑automated material handling equipment.
- Master’s degree in engineering, mechanical, operations, supply chain, business administration, or an equivalent STEM field.
- Experience in Lean Management, Six Sigma and other operations engineering tools.
