Description: The SSD (sub-same day) Design Engineering team is searching for an innovative, solutions-oriented design engineer to spearhead new initiatives and develop the next generation of world-class industrial building designs. It is an opportunity to solve complex problems with boundless innovation, leveraging advanced automated material handling equipment, packaging technologies, and robotics. You will work with internal and external teams to deliver high-quality, cost-effective solutions for Amazon's last-mile network, creating delivery station concepts and template-based designs that enhance efficiency.

Ability to travel 25% is required.

Key job responsibilities
  • Create detailed 2D CAD drawings of delivery station layouts, integrating conveyor systems, sorting equipment, and automation solutions based on operational requirements and capacity targets.
  • Lead and coordinate design efforts to develop optimal last-mile delivery station solutions, incorporating advanced material handling equipment and modular systems.
  • Develop and present comprehensive technical documents detailing design specifications, engineering rationale, and alignment with business goals.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to generate high-quality, cost-effective solutions.
  • Translate strategic visions into detailed roadmaps and technical solutions, communicating complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Continuously refine and iterate designs based on feedback, operational data, and emerging technologies to improve efficiency and scalability.
  • Ensure that all design solutions meet safety standards, operational requirements, and sustainability goals while optimizing for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay current with the latest CAD technologies and best practices in industrial design to ensure optimal use of design tools and methodologies.
  • Contribute to the development of design standards and best practices within the organization.
A day in the life

A typical day involves diving into CAD software to create and refine delivery station layouts. You'll analyze high-level demand projections to inform design decisions, ensuring future scalability. Collaborating with operations teams, you'll translate workflow needs into practical designs. Expect to juggle multiple projects, participate in design review meetings, and coordinate with architects and civil engineering on detail drawings. You'll troubleshoot design challenges, conduct capacity analyses, and stay updated on industry innovations.

The role demands a balance of analytical thinking, creative problem-solving, technical expertise, and effective communication to meet operational goals and deadlines.

We design and launch SSD solutions through innovation to optimize network capacity, adapt to evolving customer needs, and integrate seamlessly with new initiatives. Through our data-driven approach and partnerships across business, technology, design, and construction teams, we build a SSD network that delights customers and drives long-term growth.

Basic

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial or manufacturing engineering
  • 4+ years of experience as an industrial engineer, operations engineer, manufacturing engineer, or project engineer in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, VBA, and SQL at the intermediate level
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with and managing third-party vendors
  • Experience with Six Sigma and lean manufacturing

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
