The Director of Finance will play a crucial role in enhancing financial processes and implementing systems to support organizational goals. This position is integral to the strategic planning of the organization, working closely with the executive leadership team. The Director will oversee all financial administration, budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal grant management activities.

Who You Are

You are a proactive and strategic leader with extensive experience in nonprofit finance and operations. You excel in financial operations, long‑range planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis. You have managed finances for a nonprofit with an annual budget of at least $3 million, handling diverse funding sources including government contracts and grants. Your goal is to maximize organizational impact, sustainability, and scalability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and oversee financial processes and controls, identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff to ensure efficient transaction processing.
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
  • Engage with leadership to define financial health indicators.
  • Maintain fiscal policies and conduct risk assessments.
  • Manage accounting activities, ensuring compliance and accurate reporting.
  • Prepare tax reports and manage audit activities.
  • Cultivate relationships with funding sources and financial partners.
  • Act as a backup for accounting staff as needed.
Strategic Responsibilities
  • Support strategic planning with financial analysis and projections.
  • Communicate financial results to leadership, providing strategic recommendations.
  • Coordinate with the finance committee for financial reviews and policy updates.
  • Manage grant accounting and funding allocations.
  • Foster a collaborative culture for budget planning and risk management.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or accounting.
  • 10‑15 years of experience, including audit experience.
  • Knowledge of government accounting and grants.
  • Experience managing a $3M budget.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • ERP accounting experience.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and nonprofit financial regulations.
  • Proven relationship management skills.
