Senior Accountant

Responsibilities- Perform regular physical inventory counts of fixed assets and manage the asset tagging process.
- Process asset additions, retirements, cost adjustments, and capitalization.
- Maintain a detailed schedule of work-in-process fixed assets and coordinate with purchase/receiving managers to provide monthly updates on status.
- Analyze WIP assets by projects, capitalize, and place assets in service when projects are complete.
- Track all assets on books by location and summarize transfers of assets from one location to another by quarter.
- Perform periodic impairment reviews for tangible and intangible assets.
- Identify potential obsolescence of fixed assets, fully depreciated assets; provide recommendations to management regarding disposal.
- Prepare audit schedules for fixed assets and support audit inquiries.
- Prepare compliance reporting such as form SF‑428 to DOE.
- Support property insurance related activities such as preparation of the property schedule of value (SOV).
- Maintain schedules to support tax filing requirements, including property tax, sales/use tax, and B&O tax.
- Analyze asset requests to ensure proper classification as a capital asset at the onset of purchase order (PO) stage and accurate general ledger classification.
- Complete monthly, quarterly, and yearly reconciliations.
- Perform cash transaction tracking and cash reconciliations.
- Handle prepaid reconciliations in conjunction with on‑site personnel.
- Prepare journal entries, account analysis, and reporting, including all fixed asset schedules.
- Implement policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Apply general knowledge of accounting/government policies and procedures when responding to inquiries from stakeholders.
- Work closely with procurement and technical representatives to obtain data.
- Support general ledger accounting including account reconciliations and journal entry posting.
- Perform moderately complex accounting tasks/analysis, categorize data for reporting and audit purposes.
- B.S. degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent business experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting work experience.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ability to adapt to other Finance and Accounting systems (e.g., Oracle).
- Experience and strong understanding of internal controls.
- Working knowledge of government grants and/or contracts is preferred.
- Highly organized, detail‑oriented, with a high degree of accuracy.
- Direct experience with fixed asset inventory procedures is preferred.
- Capable of quickly comprehending new information and technologies.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with operations teams and non‑accounting professionals.
- Analytical/problem‑solving ability to identify, analyze, and resolve problems in a timely manner.
- Ability to prioritize and plan work activities.
- Team‑oriented and willing to operate within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.
- High degree of trust, integrity, and respect for teamwork.
- Motor abilities: sitting for extended periods, bending/stooping, grasping/gripping, fine motor control.
- Physical exertion: minimal, with ability to safely lift up to 25 pounds.
- Repetitive work: prolonged.
- Special senses: visual and audio focused work.
- Work conditions: stairs, typing/keyboard, standard and/or sitting working environment of >8 hours/day.
- Travel: 0-10%.
