As an Assistant State Auditor (ASA), you will join us in searching for new ideas to ensure our audits are relevant and provide value to the governments we audit. You will take pride in the work you do and the services we perform for the citizens of Washington State.
Team North King CountyThe Team North King County office is located in Bellevue and is one of 17 local audit teams within the Office of the Washington State Auditor. The team conducts audits of state and local governments in King and Snohomish counties, performing accountability, federal grant compliance, and financial statement audits for cities, school districts, water districts, hospitals, risk pools, and fire districts.

Assist in the conduct and completion of audits of state and local governments. Work primarily in the field at the governmental entity, collaborating with audit teams and applying knowledge gained through training.
Assistant State Auditor 1Entry‑level in‑training program (pay $4,320 – $5,812). Includes classes, on‑the‑job training, and work‑product review.
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree + at least three college‑level accounting courses. - Option 2:
Four years of business or relevant experience, including at least one year in accounting/auditing. - Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience. - Optional premium: 5% pay premium for duty stations in King County.
Intermediate level in‑training program (pay $5,011 – $6,735). May plan and conduct audits under supervision.
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree + at least three college‑level accounting courses, plus one year of relevant experience. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 2:
Five years of business or relevant experience, including two years in accounting/auditing. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Journey level (pay $6,259 – $8,415). Responsible for planning and conducting risk‑based financial and legal compliance audits, and may perform special investigations. Mentor in‑training staff.
- Option 1:
Bachelor’s degree + at least three college‑level accounting courses and two years of relevant experience. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 2:
Six years of relevant experience, including three years in accounting or auditing. Government audit experience preferred. - Option 3:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
