Job SummaryUnder supervision, assists in operations. May help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and surgeons' assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments.

Essential Functions- Participates in time-out procedures.
- Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed.
- Sets up equipment independently.
- Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team.
- Monitor and continually assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
- Prepare patients for surgery, including positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure.
- Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
- Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalent required. - Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? No.
- Licenses and Credentials:
- Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred.
- Experience:
- Experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting: 2-3 years required.
- Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience: 3-5 years preferred.
- Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room.
- Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required.
