Data Science Manager, PXT Science

Overview

Every day hundreds of thousands of Amazon associates fulfill customer promises. The PXT Central Science team applies science to staffing, retention, scheduling, and development, aiming to help leaders explain what happened, why it happened, and predict what comes next. The Data Science Manager leads a multidisciplinary team of economists, data scientists, and engineers to build causal predictive models that go beyond traditional forecasting and influence workforce decisions at scale.

• Lead and develop a diverse science team, fostering innovation and consistent delivery.
• Partner with stakeholders to define the scientific vision; build structural and predictive models using emerging technologies.
• Guide implementation of data science workflows and simulation frameworks; bridge science, technology, and business needs.
• Manage strategic planning: set team structure, processes, schedules, and audit mechanisms for quality and impact.
• Communicate findings to technical and non‑technical audiences, influence organization‑wide practices, and present to senior leadership.

• 5+ years in building quantitative solutions as a scientist or science manager.
• 2+ years managing scientists or machine‑learning engineers.
• 5+ years applying statistical models to large‑scale applications and building automated analytical systems.
• Master’s degree in computer science, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, or equivalent quantitative field.
• Proficiency in Python, R, or another scripting language.

• Experience in at least one area of machine learning (NLP, regression, classification, clustering, or anomaly detection).
• Experience with fairness in machine learning and AI, detecting and removing bias in systems.

The base salary range for this position is listed below.
