WHS Compliance Assurance Risk Manager, Governance, Compliance & External Affairs

Overview

Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Compliance Assurance Risk Manager will manage programs and processes that maintain legal compliance and conformance to internal WHS procedures, including assurance process design, development, testing, implementation, verification, and continual improvement. The role engages, collaborates, and partners with Amazon businesses, geographical units, and technical subject matter experts (SMEs) in WHS and other functions (field operations, governmental affairs, legal, engineering, data scientists, tech teams, business intelligence engineers, purchasing) to continually improve compliance.

The role responsibilities include independent, hands‑on work in stakeholder needs and expectations, legal research, stakeholder engagement, data analysis, investigation and root cause analysis, and risk management across jurisdictions worldwide.

• Define, apply, and defend health and safety compliance requirements; operate in alignment with legal or regulatory requirements; test, remediate, and enhance risk management controls.
• Partner with legal teams to interpret and define obligations; engage cross‑organizationally with leadership to design program controls and test strategy.
• Influence senior leadership to implement strategic and programmatic controls.
• Promote a culture of workplace health and safety compliance and risk management: build awareness of compliance assurance programs and expectations across organizations; act as a continual improvement evangelist.
• Communicate clear, concise, and consistent messages verbally and in writing.

• 4+ years of compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent experience
• Experience handling confidential information
• Bachelor's degree

• 3+ years of program requirements definition and data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements experience
• Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials
• Experience with SQL and Excel
