The ExperienceThe Data Modeler role is part of Salesforce's Tech and Product Data Modeling Team—a world‑class group of designers who shape the data model across every Salesforce product. The Senior or Lead Data Modeler partners daily with product managers, UX designers, architects, and software engineers to ensure that every product Salesforce ships has a well‑architected, thoughtful data model. With AI tools woven into the workflow, you’ll accelerate design and data model content creation and help improve Salesforce’s AI data modeling capabilities.
The U.S. team collaborates closely with colleagues in India, requiring some morning and evening overlap hours.
- Lead collaborative data model design sessions with product managers, UX designers, architects, and engineers—sketching logical entity‑relationship models, mapping them into the existing Salesforce data models, surfacing design risks, and driving designs to approval as peer advisors on each team. You coach and mentor these partners throughout every interaction.
- Own data model design quality across your assigned Salesforce Clouds and represent those designs to both internal and external stakeholders, making and defending design decisions that balance stability, architecture, user experience, performance, speed to market, and software cost of ownership.
- Leverage AI tools daily to accelerate data model discovery, design, validation, and documentation, while actively contributing to improving Salesforce’s AI data modeling capabilities to raise the bar for the team and partners.
- Lead and contribute to data model documentation and collateral, including entity‑relationship diagrams and reference models, to enhance understanding and adoption of the Salesforce data model across the Salesforce ecosystem.
- 10+ years of experience in relational (OLTP) data model design with deep understanding of relational database principles and a track record of leading design conversations and driving designs to approval across relational and analytical systems, spanning multiple industries.
- You communicate technical and functional concepts clearly to diverse audiences—engineers, architects, product managers, and business stakeholders—and are comfortable in both whiteboard sessions and leadership reviews.
- You thrive in a fast‑paced environment with short release cycles, can manage multiple products concurrently with minimal specifications, and know how to build consensus across teams with competing priorities.
- You are genuinely enthusiastic about using AI tools to improve your work and are motivated to help build AI‑assisted data modeling into the fabric of a world‑class team.
- A related technical degree is required.
- Experience across a broad range of business domains—sales, service, field service, marketing, commerce—and industries—financial services, health, manufacturing, communications, retail, public sector, and others.
- Knowledge of Salesforce platform features and capabilities—including both the core CRM platform and Data 360—or of modern data stack technologies such as columnar, graph, vector, streaming databases, Apache Iceberg, Snowflake, or similar.
- Strong, hands‑on knowledge of SQL (or Salesforce SOQL), relational database performance tuning, and a working knowledge of how physical database design decisions affect query performance.
- Experience serving as a trusted design advisor to product and engineering teams, with a good understanding of enterprise architecture principles.
