Position Summary

The Vice President of Surety is responsible for executing their duties within the US Surety business line, including providing an unparalleled commitment to service, underwriting expertise, and supporting the surety needs of Fortune 1000, publicly traded and large privately held companies.

  • Deliver results by understanding the unique needs and challenges of our clients’ business, taking a thoughtful, solutions‑oriented approach to the underwriting process, and working in partnership with our dedicated Surety Legal/Claims Group.
  • Directly handle a $7,500,000 portfolio.
  • Have knowledge in target industries and businesses that include but are not limited to:
    Energy/Oil and Gas, Mining and Minerals, Healthcare, Public Utilities, Industrials, Technology, Manufacturing, Transportation, Waste Services, Insurance and Financial Services.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop relationships with assigned brokers to generate new business consistent with departmental strategy.
  • Establish and communicate premium objectives with target brokers.
  • Review, negotiate and accept or decline submitted business using assigned underwriting authority and working with Executive Vice President and others when additional authority or approvals are required.
  • Adhere to Amynta’s AUP and PPD document standards concerning underwriting, pricing, file maintenance and account monitoring.
  • Maintain account information in the electronic file cabinet (EFC) by e‑filing e‑mail and other pertinent documents in real time.
  • Maintain account information in the WGT Surety System, including critical data points that support accurate reporting (account and agency demographics, industry, indemnity, S&P rating).
  • Support market associations by attending important events (NASBP, SFAA, RIMS).
  • Contribute to and work with various Amynta initiatives and Department staff.
  • Support Surety team Associate Underwriting staff by maintaining accurate, up‑to‑date information including rate and commission data points to support the booking process.
  • Review monthly Department control reports for accuracy of data, including bond booking linecards, account listing, expired authority listing, watchlist and collateral index.
  • Continuously monitor portfolio of accounts using proactive diary to ensure information is up to date and respond where necessary to deteriorating account condition or failure to meet terms and conditions requirements.
  • Establish and maintain CIQ/S&P Watchlist and Alerts.
  • Alert Senior Vice President immediately where there is a material deterioration in account status or condition, including claim notices.
  • Operate as an effective team member by supporting colleagues and contributing to the delivery and achievement of overall team and business objectives, including extensive travel.
Non‑Essential Functions
  • Participate and undertake applicable professional, technical and career development training (delivered internally and externally) to attain associated qualifications where required.
  • Comply with external and internal regulatory and statutory policies, procedures and regulations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree is a minimum requirement; advanced degree is desirable.
  • 7 years Surety experience required.
  • Financial oriented degree or work background preferred.
  • Experience with Surety underwriting practices and procedures.
  • Associated classes or courses and/or industry license, or designation is desirable.
  • Proven ability to handle a $7,500,000 portfolio and to serve a diverse set of industries including Energy, Mining, Healthcare, Utilities, Industrials, Technology, Manufacturing, Transportation, Waste Services, and Insurance/Financial Services.
