Manufacturing Process Engineer (Manufacturing Readiness Focus)
We are seeking a Manufacturing Process Engineer to support the launch of advanced material handling and mechanical systems scheduled to go live this year. Hardware has already been ordered and core product designs are complete. This role will focus on manufacturing readiness, ensuring assembly processes, documentation, tooling requirements, and production workflows are in place to support successful builds and deployments.
The ideal candidate will operate at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, deployment, and documentation. They will work closely with product engineers, controls engineers, vendors, contract manufacturers, and technical writers to ensure designs can be efficiently and consistently manufactured at scale.
This is not a traditional design-focused manufacturing engineering role. The team has already identified the necessary design changes. Instead, this role is focused on post-design execution, manufacturing process development, assembly readiness, documentation, and production support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and document manufacturing and assembly processes for mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Create work instructions, manufacturing documentation, process control plans, and assembly procedures.
- Support New Product Introduction (NPI) efforts from hardware receipt through deployment readiness.
- Ensure all tooling, fixtures, hardware, and manufacturing resources are identified and available before production activities begin.
- Review manufacturing readiness and proactively identify gaps, risks, or missing components required for successful builds.
- Collaborate closely with Product Engineering, Controls Engineering, Deployment Teams, and Technical Writers.
- Work with vendors, suppliers, and contract manufacturers to ensure manufacturing requirements are understood and documented.
- Support pilot builds and deployment activities by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and driving resolution.
- Drive continuous improvements related to quality, manufacturability, process efficiency, and production readiness.
- Ensure build teams have the tools, documentation, and support necessary for successful execution.
- Travel occasionally to lab, manufacturing, or deployment sites.
What This Role Is Not
- No hands-on assembly or production responsibilities.
- No decommissioning activities.
- No procurement or supply chain ownership.
- Limited focus on engineering change management or design modifications.
- Not a product design engineering position.
Required Qualifications Experience
- 5+ years of experience in Manufacturing Engineering, Process Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience developing manufacturing processes, work instructions, assembly procedures, and production documentation.
- Experience supporting New Product Introduction (NPI), production launches, manufacturing ramp activities, or deployment readiness programs.
- Demonstrated success identifying manufacturing readiness gaps and implementing process improvements.
- Experience working cross-functionally with engineering teams, suppliers, contract manufacturers, and technical writers.
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes for mechanical and electromechanical systems.
- Experience supporting production builds, pilot lines, factory floor operations, or manufacturing launch activities.
- Hands-on experience with multiple fabrication and manufacturing processes, including:
- Die Casting
- Sheet Metal Fabrication
- Welding (robotic welding experience preferred)
- Roll Forming
- Stretch Forming
- Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles and manufacturing constraints.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), manufacturing documentation, and assembly instructions.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to identify missing hardware, tooling, fixtures, fasteners, or assembly requirements prior to production.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in automation, robotics, material handling systems, aerospace, automotive, industrial equipment, or advanced manufacturing environments.
- Experience supporting complex machinery deployments and manufacturing readiness initiatives.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and external fabrication partners.
- Experience using PLM systems to manage product data and engineering documentation.
- Experience with Solid Works and Teamcenter.
- Experience supporting manufacturing industrialization, production planning, or factory launch activities.
Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a highly organized manufacturing professional who excels at translating completed designs into executable manufacturing processes. They are proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of identifying issues before production begins. This individual…
