Sea-Bird Scientific Calibration Lead
Location:
Bellevue, Washington. Full-time, onsite day shift (Monday - Friday). This role reports to the Production Supervisor and is responsible for leading calibration operations, mentoring technicians, and driving continuous improvement across the manufacturing organization.
Technical Expertise & Calibration Execution: Perform advanced calibrations on a broad range of instrumentation and sensor technologies using established procedures and industry best practices. Operate and maintain calibration equipment including manual and hydraulic dead weight testers, pressure vessels, calibration baths, ovens, chillers, and specialized test and measurement equipment. Independently analyze calibration results, troubleshoot complex issues, and utilize proprietary software for documentation.
Technical Leadership: Coordinate daily workflow, provide coaching and mentorship to technicians, support onboarding, reinforce best practices, and serve as trusted technical advisor.
Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput; lead Kaizen events; investigate root causes and implement corrective actions; collaborate across functions to resolve production challenges.
Collaboration & Communication: Partner with Quality, Manufacturing, Engineering, Technical Support, and R&D teams; communicate priorities, technical issues, and risks; serve as a backup resource for departmental leadership.
Essential Requirements- Associate degree in a technical discipline or equivalent education/experience.
- Minimum of 4 years experience in calibration, instrumentation, manufacturing, or related technical environments.
- Experience with ISO, quality management, or regulated manufacturing (asset).
- Lean manufacturing and continuous improvement experience (asset).
- Experience supporting cross‑functional engineering or R&D initiatives (asset).
- Formal technical training, certifications, or advanced coursework in instrumentation, electronics, or calibration (asset).
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Advanced troubleshooting and diagnostic skills; strong understanding of measurement uncertainty, data interpretation, and process control.
- Excellent project prioritization, time management, interpersonal and communication capabilities.
- Ability to identify systemic issues and recommend sustainable process improvements.
The role requires sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to manipulate small components. Employees must frequently walk, climb, balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and use hands to handle, feel, or operate tools. Occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and/or frequent lifting up to 20 pounds. Exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, dust, chemicals, extreme temperatures, and loud noise is possible.
Appropriate PPE such as eye, hearing, respiratory protection, smock, steel‑toe shoes, gloves, and face shields will be required.

Salary range: $38.00 - $40.00 per hour (may vary based on experience, qualifications, and other factors). The position is eligible for bonus pay.
