Position Overview :

The National Park Foundation’s Planned Giving program represents a community of donors who provide support to the organization from their estate plans. Known collectively as the "1916 Society," these generous donors have pledged more than $125 million to the Foundation and represent more than 670 donors. Inspired by America 250, and with support from the Foundation’s Board of Directors, the organization is committed to actively growing this program as a channel for long-term sustainable impact revenue and to help more American’s leave a legacy through the national parks.

The Foundation seeks a new Planned Giving Manager who will have primary responsibility for managing a portfolio of current and prospective donors, focusing on the cultivation, solicitation, and closure of planned gifts. This includes qualifying leads generated internally and externally, responding to inquiries with tailored estate planning education, and preparing life income gift proposals for donors and their advisors. This fundraising role requires virtual and in-person outreach to members of the 1916 Society and other prospects to understand and deepen their commitment to the mission of the Foundation.

The Planned Giving Manager will also share responsibility for collaborating with the Annual Giving and Individual Giving teams on additional development activities including but not limited to identification of planned giving prospects, development and execution of donor strategies (including blended gift opportunities), special projects, and other duties as assigned.

We’re looking for someone who enjoys building relationships, collaborating with colleagues, and talking about America’s national parks.

Responsibilities will include :

  • Close planned gifts, including bequests, beneficiary designations, and charitable gift annuities to achieve annual individual, team, and comprehensive campaign goals. Performance metrics include GAAP and non-GAAP revenue goals, donor meetings, 1916 Society membership, and individual and collaborative solicitations.
  • Develop and maintain a portfolio of current and prospective Planned Giving donors through regular communication in-person and virtual visits, email and phone outreach, and mail.
  • Follow up on leads from marketing campaigns, individual inquiries, and personal outreach to generate leads and develop contacts for solicitation.
  • Assist with the strategy and creation of an annual planned giving marketing plan; coordinate with a project manager and vendor as needed throughout the year as adjustments are needed; work with Senior Director to analyze results and respond to leads.
  • Manage personalized stewardship plans for assigned portfolio and assist with broader stewardship of the 1916 Society as needed.
  • Support colleagues on the Annual Giving and Individual Giving teams to identify and solicit planned giving prospects and blended gifts, as well as other Philanthropy Team members, as appropriate.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities :

  • Minimum of 4 years of donor-facing fundraising experience; strong preference given to candidates with demonstrated planned giving experience.
  • Knowledge of planned giving vehicles and best practices required.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, and an ability to answer donor inquiries about bequests, beneficiary designations, charitable gift annuities, and impact with confidence.
  • Excellent organization, time management, analytical, and problem-solving skills; a strong attention to detail; a demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining disciplined adherence to program goals.
  • Must work effectively and collaboratively with a wide range of staff across several departments.
  • Good judgment and a high degree of confidentiality a must.
  • Strong multi-cultural sensitivity.
