Bellevue Emergency Management VISTA Outreach Member
The City of Bellevue’s Office of Emergency Management is dedicated to preparing for, responding to, and recovering from disasters in the region. While first responders play an important role in disaster response, the reality is that improving personal preparedness among community members is critical to building a resilient community that is prepared for any disaster. The Ameri Corps Member will be responsible for building programs that support community members who have traditionally faced additional barriers in disaster response and recovery.
They will develop community assessment tools, outreach frameworks, training materials, and evaluation tools to ensure these communities have access to resources needed to become better prepared.
They will need excellent project management experience, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to be flexible and adapt. During their service, the Ameri Corps member will gain unique insight into emergency management and receive mentorship and support from the OEM team.
Member DutiesThe Ameri Corps member will build preparedness programs and tools for underserved community members, including those from low-income communities, with access and functional needs, and with limited English proficiency, to help reduce barriers to preparedness. They develop, assess, and improve resources for the Office of Emergency Management team to share with the community, enabling proactive preparedness and resilience.
